--==[ I was out with a few friends at 1:30AM when my cell phone chirped. I pulled it out of my pocket and read the text message. "How are all? Met with kids. Pics and video. Hens, goats walk with you. Love you." It was from Uganda. My wife was in Uganda. I smiled. A text message meant she was safe. I felt instantly at ease. How dangerous could goats and hens actually be? I clicked out a text response. "All is well. Headed to bed soon. Miss you. Love you." --==[ The phone chirped again at 8:30 A.M. and I snapped out of my melatonin-induced slumber... |

Shmoocon was simply amazing this year! We had a great turnout, a great speaking lineup, great events and a new "all grown up" space at the hotel this year. The Shmoo that helped pull it all together really deserve a ton of credit. A con is no small task... I felt like a dork not helping out with the planning. I'm such a slacker. =/ Thanks to all of you that showed up to my "No-Tech Hacking" talk. As always the Shmoocon crowd... |

2007 Cyber Defense Competition |
|
Saturday, 10 March 2007 |
|
Man oh man, some things just take me back in time. I spoke at the 2007 Mid-Atlantic Regional collegiate Cyber Defense Competition this weekend, and man oh man did it take me back. These college students were brilliant and passionate (and laughed at my jokes during the Hollywood talk) but man I felt old! I really had a great time, and it felt great to get back to basics. The passion of hacking and security is something that I've missed. With hacking as a job, it's hard to stay passionate, but this group certainly helped. In attendance was Tim Rosenberg and Dwight Hobbs of White Wolf Security (thanks for the awesome coin... you guys rock), Omar Fink from SAIC, Chris Patterson (MTM security consultant), William Salusky (Security Engineer with AOL), Eric Cole of secure-anchor.com, and Casey O'Brien who coordinated the event. Thanks for having me guys, it was a blast! |
